About Us

Calendar Club specialises in retailing calendars, diaries, planners and gifts during the busy Christmas shopping season. With roughly 1,100 titles and an extended range of over 6,500 products online, we are the largest retailer of dated product in the UK. Our shops and mall units have been a common sight in shopping centres and high streets across the UK and Ireland from the end of September to mid-January for over 22 years.

Our History

In 1998, Calendar Club opened its doors at 12 temporary locations across the UK. Since then, that number has grown at a steady rate and we now look to trade from between 200 to 300 sites every year, both on the high street and in out-of-town shopping centres. The UK Calendar Club operation is also part of a larger group, with branches in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, altogether boasting around 1,000 seasonal shops.

By 2003, just five years after our stores first opened, we launched our ecommerce website - www.calendarclub.co.uk - and began selling our calendars and diaries online. This provided us with the opportunity to promote our extensive range all year round. Believe it or not, customers still want to buy calendars in the middle of the year!

In 2011, we relocated to our current home known as the Exe Box, a 12,000m2 storage facility, office complex and distribution centre on the outskirts of Exeter in Devon, along with our sister companies, Carousel Calendars and Otter House. The majority of permanent staff work from this location, with a team of Territory Managers out on the road, ready to provide help with store builds, health and safety issues and the general day-to-day administration of the business throughout the season.

Not content with selling around 4 million calendar, diary and planner units each year, back in 2012 we expanded our range to incorporate a variety of puzzles, jigsaw and games. The ongoing development of our gift lines, which now include mugs, socks, stationery and more, has added a further string to our bow and will continue to enable us to develop the Calendar Club brand as we look ahead to the next 20 years.

Operating between 200-300 stores from September to January as well as a year-round e-commerce business, our staff experience an intense peak season focused on maximising sales over a relatively short period in the run up to Christmas.

What is your bestselling calendar?

It's something we get asked every season. Each year, one big title pips all the others to the post. Here, we list every bestseller since the turn of the century. It's an almost perfect reflection of popular culture across the past two decades. Robbie and Kylie dominated the first few years, with Entertainment titles only ever nudged out of the way during successful Liverpool Football Club years. There have been a couple of historical curveballs thrown, which we love - remember the lovely Charlie Dimmock? - but for the most part, they make perfect sense.

Just to be clear, we didn't make a mistake from 2012 to 2015 - One Direction did sell more calendars than anybody else for four years running, before Justin Bieber briefly took over. Nobody else has come close to the calendar sales we saw for the outrageously popular 1D.
